Thank you to our Customers….

Fourteen years ago, we started Fabulous Flute Music Company at www.fabulousflute.com as a source of information to support our new pedagogy books and other pedagogy activities.  Our books were eventually published by Theodore Presser Company (www.presser.com).  They books are now widely available at your favorite flute shop or music store, so we no longer feel the need to continue our own online shop.  In addition, our books are now available digitally at www.presser.com using either the Newzik or forScore apps.

It has been a wonderful project.  We have gotten to know so many of you and sincerely thank you for your continued support. Our website will remain live for the next several months, except for the ability to order online.

For those of you who may be interested in sheet music, we ended the year with a limited amount of sheet music left in inventory: compositions and arrangements by Phyllis Avidan Louke.  There are some flute solos (including many for low flute or c-flute), and some duets, trios, quartets, flexible flute ensemble, and flute choir music.  For a list of pieces available, click on this link: https://www.phyllislouke.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/2023-2-Available-Sheet-Music-by-Phyllis-Avidan-Louke.pdf

This inventory will be sold at a 15% discount with free shipping (U.S. only) on orders of $100 or more.  Contact Phyllis Louke at phyllislouke@gmail.com if you’re interested in purchasing any of this music.

Best,
Phyllis Avidan Louke and Patricia George

OF MOUNTAINS, LAKES, AND MISCHIEF for Flute Choir
by Phyllis Avidan Louke, pub. ALRY
Use Up/Down Arrow keys to increase or decrease voluThis piece was commissioned by Townes Osborn Miller and Eldred Spell’s devoted students and friends, past and present. Dr. Eldred Spell was the flute professor at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina for 35 years. He loved teaching and considered his students as the most important part of his career.

Of Mountains, Lakes and Mischief is written in 3 movements:

  1. Mountain Prayer:The first movement opens with a tender piccolo solo and expands to a lovely and reverent melody depicting Eldred’s deep love for the North Carolina mountains.
  2. Eleven Cats: Eldred was a devoted cat owner, which is certainly great material for the imagination.  This movement is a light-hearted look at what kind of mischief that might ensue in a house with lots of cats: certainly purring, meowing, a somewhat circus-like atmosphere, and chasing, including a trip (or several) across the piano.
  3. Kayak on the Lake:  Written in two sections in 6/8 meter, the movement opens with morning birds chirping and singing followed by a gently flowing melody as the kayaks glide across the lake. Transitioning to a minor key, the melody becomes a more energetic and celebratory sea shanty, ending with a Picardy third (G major chord).

Scored for piccolo, 3 c-flutes, alto flute, bass flute, and optional contrabass flute
Performance Time:  9:00     Level 3-4
